A Small Town
Your car breaks down on the highway... what do you do now?
Attempt to uncover the mysteries of a strange town and find a way to escape... or spend all of your money gambling and beg a stranger for more cash.
This was created for Project 01 of my Intro to Game Design class.
I initially set out to make a horror game, or at least a game that would unsettle the player and explore empty environments. I ended up changing this because I was having so much fun writing a very silly and very dumb game. My designer's statement is that I want players to feel surprised while doing exploration because it will make them laugh.
While I'm not sure my game's writing or level design ended up being as good as I hoped for, I managed to capture a semi-open world on a small-scale, and get some experience discovering what it's like the design games. If I could, I would add more areas, more exploration, and more people to talk to. I had a larger plan which ended up being cut down for logistical reasons, but I feel like with some more time and motivation I could finish those parts. I feel like my game is fairly short and simple right now, yet still lacks compelling motivation for players to progress. By adding and refining these elements of my game more, it could hopefully lead to a better experience for players.
